A Major Change of Phase

The struggle to learn during the pandemic is no joke for most students. It is clear that we are experiencing difficulties when it comes to school. It’s just that nowadays, learning is not as productive nor joyous like before. As a 10th grader from a public school, even students from a private school, many relate to the fact that I, myself, is having trouble keeping up with the lessons and activities given for us to undertake.

We students do believe that education is the most lethal weapon to have as we excel in life and face endless trials that come our way. Although, it is to be said that we no longer have the same drive nor excitement to learn. There is nothing much we can do as mere students. When you think about, all we do is receive copies of our modules weekly, self-study, answer the given tasks and pass them. I do get tired of this cycle honestly, its not that I hate it, ‘cause hate is a strong word, it is more of getting stressed. Stress isn’t a new thing to us, it has been in our circle, our whole lives, when it comes to school. Its not just the stress that can take over us, there’s depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, isolation and more that can mess up our mental health. We all know that both education and mental health are very crucial when are not managed properly, especially when it comes to, us, students.

Quality education really is a must at this time, but we have to admit that school is hard without the actual guidance of a mentor, right? School could’ve been better without the pandemic. The hallways filled with endless amounts of students, the teachers scolding us for what we done wrong, the fun during break times with friends, flag ceremonies, contests – all the noises being heard at school that I used to dislike, I actually long for those noises, its more of some kind of music that I haven’t heard in a long time – if this even makes sense.  Now that me and fellow 10th graders are in our last year of Junior High and could’ve had a Juniors Prom. A lot of opportunities are going to be missed if the pandemic would still be around. Just thinking about it is really sad. We all have our insights when it comes to education at this rate of time and that is acceptable. However, when time flies, we can somehow learn from such situations, as long as we find the bright side of it.

Despite the hardships we have been through during this new normal at school, we shouldn’t let our guard down that easily. Yes, learning hasn’t been the best for the last school year and even this year, though we must strive not just for the people’s expectation of us, but for ourselves, our own sake.

  1. Many of our expectations in high school really got destroyed just because of corona virus. Lots of good opportunities and memories got lost just because of pandemic and lockdowns. Either way, you're right. We must continue to fight and never give up, this battle isn't done yet.
