Lives at Stake

Filipinos are known to be at ease during storms and typhoons, since we are actually used to situations as these. Either rain or shine, we advance to enhance our country as one. Although, ever since the pandemic has taken over our beloved nation, it was seen that many have suffered – from being financially broke, losing jobs, the peoples mental health taking its toll, countless deaths and many more due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is to be said that our “bayanihan spirit” wasn’t really seen nor observed as of those times due to the fact that many civilians only thought about themselves and didn’t really take the pandemic seriously which lead to suffering, death and the people to mourn. It is also to be said that a lot of people in our government are corrupted and may even use us for their needs and wants, which is just real talk. If we really want our country to roam free, we must know how to discipline ourselves first.

The Philippines’s economic system has dropped by that time for obvious reasons. Panic buying then emerged which lead to a problem to another. The citizens didn’t have the time to care nor think about other people, they only thought about their family and selves, which can be a good reason why they do so. This then has lead us to complications and further suffering since no one really cared much at first. Racism was even observed. Citizens even criticize front liners that time, since they were afraid to get in contact with them, which is understandable yet still not pleasant to hear nor think about it. It is us, ourselves, to blame for such things. We were selfish and greedy towards fellow Filipinos. But, when time passed by, we did adapt to this new way of living, slowly but surely and had a new start of life to help each other up. We have to admit that this is easier said than done, right? It really is hard to adjust ourselves drastically, but we have no other choice – it is for the sake of humanity.

No matter how hard life treats us and beats us down, we must never give up and keep on getting back on our feet, do a stance, get ready for the battle, fight and advance forward. Yes, the war of the people against COVID-19 has been a long, tiring journey, but we must never back down. For the future and incoming generations, we shall advance towards a better tomorrow. We will win this fight as one and take back the life we long for!
